π² Vol. I β SAMODIVI Bulgaria / South Slavic

They live where the forest stops answering questions.
The Samodivi do not haunt the mountains β they are the mountains' will made visible. They move in circles after dark, in clearings no one marked on any map. If you hear singing from a place that should be empty, you have already been noticed.
They are beautiful the way wildfire is beautiful. The way a river in winter is beautiful. You do not approach them. You do not speak their names aloud. You do not cut a tree in their forest without asking.
Men who followed the dancing were found days later β still alive, unable to say where they had been. The women in the old villages understood. There are things older than safety, older than law. The Samodivi were here before the first fence was built and will be here when the last one falls.
This is their sound.
π Vol. II β IELE Romania

You will know them by what stops moving.
The dogs go silent. The wheat bends the wrong direction. The air holds itself very still. This is the moment before the Iele arrive β not as warning, but as courtesy. They do not need you to be afraid. They will dance whether you are watching or not.
They were never women. They took that shape the way wind takes the shape of whatever it moves through. The ring dance leaves a circle burned into the earth. Nothing grows there afterward. Not from destruction β from consecration. The land remembers being touched by something that old.
To see them dance is to lose something you cannot name. Not your mind. Not your memory. Something quieter. Some certainty about the boundary between worlds.
This is their sound.
π Vol. III β NYMPHS Greece

Before the first temple was raised, the water was already inhabited.
The Greeks did not invent the Nymphs. They simply wrote down what everyone already knew β that the springs, the rivers, the mountain caves and deep sea trenches were not empty. That what lived there was feminine, ancient, and not entirely concerned with human wellbeing. The temples came later, built at the water's edge to acknowledge what was already there.
They were not gods. The gods had thrones, lineages, politics. The Nymphs had places. A specific spring. A specific olive grove. A specific hollow in a specific cliff face overlooking a specific sea. To destroy that place was to destroy them. They knew this. So did the people who left offerings at the edge of the water before drinking.
Beauty that old does not need your attention. It simply persists.

π¬οΈ Vol. IV β VILA The Balkans

They chose the wind because the wind answers to nothing.
The Vila are not spirits of the air β they are what the air becomes when it decides to have a will. They ride storms across the Balkan mountains without destination, without purpose a human mind could follow. They are not lost. They are what movement looks like when it has never been stopped.
In the old stories they appear as warriors β armed, precise, lethal when provoked. They made alliances with heroes and broke those alliances the moment any man mistook loyalty for ownership. They do not belong to anyone. They never did. The wind does not belong to anyone either.
To call a Vila by name without invitation is to invite the storm inside your walls. The walls will not survive it.

π Vol. V β SIDHE Ireland

They did not leave. They went deeper.
When the old gods of Ireland were driven from the surface world they did not die β they withdrew into the hollow hills, into the space beneath the landscape that had always been there. The Sidhe are what remains of a world that existed before this one, pressing against the thin places in the land.
Time moves differently in their country. You step through a gap in a stone wall on an autumn evening and return to find three years have passed, or thirty, or none at all. They did not do this to you deliberately. Time simply works differently where beauty is absolute.
They are not evil. They are not good. They are entirely themselves, which is more dangerous than either. The old Irish left offerings at the fairy mounds not out of worship but out of acknowledgment β we know you are here. We know the land is yours as much as ours. We are asking to share it.
The asking was always the important part.

π§ Vol. VI β RUSALKA East Slavic

They did not choose the water. The water chose them.
The Rusalki are the grief the river holds. Young women who died before their time β before marriage, before summer, before the life that was owed to them. The water took them in not as consolation but as continuation. They became something the living could not become: permanent.
They surface in the warm months, when the rye is tall and the nights are short. They dance in the fields to make the grain grow. They call to young men from the water's edge, and the men who follow them do not always return. This is not cruelty. This is memory β the memory of what was taken, expressed in the only language that remains.
To drown in their waters is to be remembered by them. Some say this is the worst fate. Some say it is the only kind of remembering that lasts.

π¦ Vol. VII β MORRIGAN Celtic

She was there before the battle began. She will be there when the last body is counted.
The Morrigan does not cause war. She is what war reveals β the shape of fate made visible in the moment before the killing starts. She appears as a crow on the fence post, as a red-haired woman washing armor at the ford, as three women who are somehow one. Warriors who saw her washing their armor at the crossing knew what it meant. Most fought anyway. She respected that.
She is sovereignty. Not as symbol β as living force. The land's right to determine who rules it, who bleeds for it, who is worthy of it. Kings who won her favour did not win it through strength. They won it through the willingness to be broken open by what ruling actually costs.
This is the final volume. The series begins in the forest with the Samodivi β wild, ecstatic, alive. It ends here, on the battlefield, in the presence of something that has watched every civilization rise and return to earth.
She was here first. She will close the door when the last one leaves.
